Blah, Argh, and Ack!

I am not one of those writer’s who has everything outlined. When I write, I’m on a journey. Other than some general plot lines I have no idea where I’m going and I love it! I get to experience the same surprise as the readers. There are some downsides to it though.

I have to hop around. This makes for continuity issues and more editing. As I edit Haunted (working title), I find that the main character is very good by the end, but I just don’t like her at the beginning and have no clue as to how she changes yet.

Sometimes the story takes me somewhere I don’t want to go. Confession time. I don’t just talk to myself. I argue with my brain. See, sometimes my brain says, “What about this idea? Ta-Da!” My response is usually along the lines of, “Aw, man. I don’t want to do that. That is light years ahead of where we are now. Just focus!” While thinking about my current book, Brain decided to jump ahead to ideas about the sequel. Then a few days later, in pops the premise for the third part that I had no idea I was even going to write. *Face plop*

I just realized that I write like I clean. Find something in the kitchen that belongs in bedroom. Better put that away. Oh goodness, what a mess my bedroom is! Hey, this should be in the living room. Let’s clean the living room now.

How do you like to work? Straight on till morning or like a schizophrenic tornado?
